Hi Nick.

Had me scratching my head there - had to check with forum support.

Info for all: You can delete an erroneous post yourself - but not once someone else has replied.
Go figure! Makes some sort of sense I suppose?

Lister D New Project High Wycombe Empty High Wycombe Lister D Update

Post by northernboy Mon Dec 27 2021, 13:37

Few more photos of the dismantled engine - everything has come apart fine except the the flywheel - this key also snapped off and despite lots of WD40 and a good talking to with my blow torch and lump hammer nothing moving so now have a real challenge - I have drilled out as much of the key as I can without causing too much damage to the key way. Am thinking this may need a oxy - acetylene torch to get it really hot and a heavy duty press neither of which I have. My 5 ton press is not enough. Time to take a break and eat chocolate and mince pies  Very Happy

Good news is the crank bearings seem fine, cylinder not showing serious signs of wear, piston and big and little end seem OK and no obvious cracks in head or block.

It might help if you stop using Water Dispersant i.e. WD40 and used proper penetrating fluid.

I have always found WD40 to work well as a penetrating oil but point taken iagree

To enhance maryalice's somewhat terse reply:

I've used Plus Gas for donkeys years with good results. If you decide to go that route then look out for an ordinary can with spout rather than aerosol - much cheaper and less wasteful

I also have several aerosol cans of GT85 (made by WD-40 company) on the shelf. Look out for it in you local German discount store.  £8.63 for two from Mr Bezos, £3 per can from Tesco!

However, I was chatting to my local car mechanic about freeing up rusted parts and he kindly gave me the dog end of a can of KANO AeroKroil.
I haven't done a fully randomised, double blind, large cohort trial but results so far are most impressive. However it ain't cheap. Best price I have found so far is around £16 for 10 oz (US) - about 280 ml

I'm to the point and don't beat about the bush, what's the point of waffle.

My tin of plusgas run out of gas with still plenty in the tin - I pierced the tin and put contents in a container and now apply by small brush EXACTLY where I want it!

Unless I'm very much mistaken, the whole and sole purpose of this forum is to share information, knowledge, skills and experience of Stationary engines.

Everyone else feel free to 'waffle' as per usual. Wink
