My new project

So just started this project this weekend, all disassembled now and ready to be stripped and cleaned long task ahead.
frist time doing anything like this so was a huge learning curve.



Removing the pump impeller was a pain.
i had to place an allen key in a small section of bar then turn the fly wheel end with a box spanner, so it turned then impeller and dug into my bench, it was the only way to apply enough pressure on the grub screw.

Although the worst part so far was the valves, took the retaining clips out fairly easily, but the valves wouldn't come out and i couldn't work it out. after two hours! yes two hours, i got them out.
The end of the valves had mushroomed some how and wouldn't drop through the retaining spings, once through these they wouldn't pull through so i had to file them down while still inside to get them out.

still if it was easy it would be boring

It did take some pics but they aren't good enough to show the problems, must remember to take better pics next time!

I believe I may have some 10/12 valves but not sure if they are standard or oversize stems. If you can give me accurate dimensions I can check.
Also have manuals for various flavours of 10/12 if you need a copy.

Not being able to shift the impeller was one of things that condemned mine, ended up breaking it.

Looks like you have a couple of broken fins on the flywheel, I've got a spare if you need it.

I'm missing six fins, four in one section and another two further round.
If the offer is still open let me know how much you want for it and postage and I'll send some money over. Absolutely no rush, plenty of work to do before iget to rebuild.

Strip down and clean progressing well. I don't have a vapour blaster and trying to keep costs down, so using paint stripper and elbow grease!



Wasn't sure which colour to go with, but now I've found a booklet, think I'll go yellow and black.

I tried Jenolite, got it off Amazon. it says leave for 15 minutes, but this stuff is bubbling instantly and the paint lifts off in about 3-5, great stuff.

Yeah I think so, found this booklet, I'm going to go with the yellow and black theme, but a different yellow, which is more vibrant.

I used to use Jenolite to remove paint off of a B17G fuselage at Duxford IWM, it was industrial grade and brilliant, then they produced what your using which was considerably weaker but still worked but not so well.

Mine was yellow at one time (most of it had come off) and it looked like the engine had been painted green over the yellow.
