open crank barn finds

hello folks, im going to have a look at a barn find open crank, the chap has no idea what it is, he thinks its semi seized aswell, can anyone give any tips on what to look out for and rough prices, i know this is difficult, but im the kinda chap who likes to deal before the seller changes his mind Very Happy

depends what it is/what size it is/complete etc start at £5 and work you way up lol, see what it is 1st could be a lister D with a hole in the crank case Laughing

the most important things above all, is completeness of the crankcase and gears, as those are the most difficult to repair replace, frost damage and missing gears can make a very expensive rebuild. mags can be expensive, but their are cheap, temporary ways around that i.e. fitting newer mags or using HT coils on low voltage batteries, until suitable replacements are found.

dont go at the engine forcefully, old metal can be fragile, be steady and look over the engine thoroughly, use feel not force.
