Yer had it running but having a few snags ie it sounds like a bucket of frogs and not a dawn chorus so still some work to do

At least u have it running mate Smile mines been ok since i have cured the valve tapped problem .... only thing is that it is not running as smooth as it should do . The mag i have got has a intermittent spark it sparks around 5 times then misses the next few and fires for a bit then misses so i have a hit and miss Lister A Laughing Just need to have a new coil in the mag . Need to pop down to Bristol to see Martyn at vintage magnetos for a new coil and should be ok after that . but it still runs well even the mag has problems .

Thanks for the comments, have been done with grate blackner, and yes every thing has to be stripped back to bare metal and wire brushed so that there's no paint residue left

Loads on Nitromors, elbow grease and wire brushes and keep repeating till all removed and just left with bare metal, dont forget all the corners and hidy holes

Abes, looking at the pics of your A to me it looks like the spring on the throttle linkeage is far to tight and the govenor rod/ throttle rod dont look right compared to what mine were, it may just all need setting up and adjusting,

thanks for the info i was told nitromores was not available any more, must have been misinformed.
i have been looking for a way to remove paint, i find new paint looks so much better if the old is removed first.

Think you might be right ive never been happy with how its set up when i got the engine the whole thing was in bits so its been trial and error putting all the bits together in the right order and place and not having access to another to compare its been a steep learning curve, ive only managed to get as far as i have done with help from forum members

My view is should always be stripped back to bare metal even if your painting, if you dont put the prep work in the finish aint going to be great either.
Yer Nitormors still available from certain retailers aint cheap though

Me and ian dont think you have the throttle / guvnor rods set up how they should be mine is like Ians , try a shorter spring , and those rods look a little on the long side too think the slide plate is closed rather than open .

Oh and ian , another thing that has come to my attention before a coil re wind is the guvnor weight springs ...! i might have a slightly weak guvnor when gets upto speed . The springs have not been touched .... left well alone . Might have a look at that but il give it a long run and do what said 1st mate .

abes if you want me to measure my rods i can do mate .

shhh Ian your spoil my assumption Laughing well mine was pulled out of a shed and had been in there for 40 years .... so thats my guess your looks too new well it does the job so that's all that matters lol

But there more i think it could be the guvnor weight springs .... or thats might be trying to run it too slow ... compined with the plug issue ... but it never stops so it be fine to take to a rally anyway .
