Tarpen generating set info required

Hi, im after some info for what is believed to be a tarpen type 42 generating set, ive recently purchased one with a damaged engine which ive removed and using the dynamo for a load on my petter m, The dynamo is missing its spec plate so would like some info if anyone knows, i have found pics of the same generating set on google and its said to be a type 42 and that there 110v, only mines 240v it puts out 240v and the voltmeter reads up to 300v so its obviously supposed to be a 240v dynamo, can anyone help please , mine was identical to this one ive found on google,

Found this picture of a Type 42 do you have a big enough engine to run it then lol

Is this thread a bit old now??? I think I missed it, but here goes (always happy to help)....

Tarpen generating sets were all listed as 110volt, but pretty much all their literature says "Other voltages available on request", so it could be anything.

Bear in mind most of them didn't have voltage regulators, they were regulated by engine speed. My engine governor is broken, so I just set mine up with light bulbs glowing roughly how I think they should be. But when I measured the voltage on mine if I revved the engine I could get over 200 volts at times, but your 300v sounds way in excess of this, so I expect it is a 240v dynamo. Also bear in mind most of the time you are measuring "no-load voltage", it will drop when a load is applied. If you can get it all set up roughly you can set your engine's governor to keep the voltage stable.

That's the other thing to remember, it is a dynamo, IE: DC current is supplied, & whilst this will run light bulbs there are things it won't run (I suspect you know all this anyway), some motors will be fine & stuff like heating elements will be fine as well, but it can damage other stuff. If you look out for any 240v Tarpen stuff (hedge cutters, grass-masters etc. etc.) it will run these fine as they're all universal motors (which work on AC or DC current).

To me it seems a real shame to split up another complete generating set, but it's your engine, & they are a good looking dynamo on these. If the engine is damaged then you're probably putting it to the best use by splitting it.
I really want a Type 42 & have been looking for one for a while now. I would be seriously tempted by the rest of the unit if it was to be offered in the for sale section. But money's tight right now & distance is always an issue. No doubt one will turn up round here at some point.
