Mounting an engine on a new trolley.

Hi All.

Thought I would throw this one out to you all again in the hope of some suggestions/ comments.

My Petter A1 is now re enamelled and looking splendid with its new paint, bolts etc etc. I have built a new trolley for it and am wondering about its mounting position. The 4 mounting holes are set into the base of the engine but with the flywheel etc the actual centre point of its weight is actually slightly offset from the base. The wheelbase is not that wide and I was thinking about setting the engine offset on the trolley so as to make the weight act about its centre. Does it make any difference or am I just looking at this in too much detail.

How wide apart are the wheels?

Hiya. The trolley is 10" wide and the wheels are 13" wide. My current trolley is the same but I do feel that a small offset would be better. Video of current trolley on the forum.

Yeah that is abit narrow, my wheels are usually about 18'' apart on an engine this sort of size, might be a good idea to offset a bit, 3-4 inches should do it

I too would off set the engine a few inches as well.
I don't think it would really matter, but on the rally field you might find that after a weekend of running the engine has sunk into the ground more on one side that the other. Which might upset your belt alignment. just a thought   

I've often thought about an engines centre of gravity, the flywheels has got to be the single heaviest part on an engine along with the crank case depending on what type the engine.
If you type in "Lister D" into google images you will see a black on with a trolley that is literally no longer or wider that the engine. It makes me wander how stable this is??
