this is my latest project, a stuart turner r3m.

a strip down and rebuild followed by a new cooling tank and maybe a repaint.

Hi Richard,
Nice looking engine there, and it appears to be in good condition as well ! Does it start and run ok?
All the best,
Kev.

it does run and pump well, first job will be a permanent cooling tank fastened to the trolley and piped up.

I will be interested to see what you use for the cooling tank and how you fix it all up. I have to get or make 2 tanks for my 2 R2 projects.
All the best,
Kev.

hello,
I made this today from bits I had in the shed. it works well and holds enough water to not overheat too quickly.

Hi Richard,
A very neatly made and positioned water tank - how many gallons does it hold?
I was told that if I was to run my R2 for long periods I would need something like a 12gal tank but could get away with a smaller one if it was only going to be run for short periods - I am hoping to show mine at rallies so was thinking of using a 5gal tank.I should add that mine does not have a pump but relies on thermodynamic circulation.
All the best,
Kev.

stuart turner project. Empty cooling tank

Post by earlsinclare Sun Jan 04, 2015 2:34 pm

hello,
I've not measured the tank yet, although when I fill the tank to the top it takes a good hour to heat it through, I can then drain some from the drain bolt and top it up again.
this display has been built to a size limit to fit in my car so I can take it to shows, it would be nice to have a larger cooling tank so i could just leave it to run all day.
