Are you on SmokStak Kev? This looks a little different to the usual Tiny Tim's I've seen, but should be pretty much the same underneath.

Strange looking air intake gubbins, must've been for very dusty conditions.

Anyway, SmokStak might be of some help, but then again many of their members are of the persuasion "if it ain't open-crank it ain't an old engine" (sadly some British enthusiasts are the same), but a lot of these smaller engines now have a good following on there.

You just need to pick the right section to post in, there are so many on there! scratch

What's the ignition system? flywheel mag or something else? The dynamo should be the same as any other, once you get past a certain stage. Wish I could get my hands on it, I could probably tell you more then. Condition kind of reminds me of my Homelite when I started on that.

Could go in air cooled petrols or in the genny section. (mind you, it could go in a number of other places as well)

Genny section doesn't get much traffic though.

I thought it looked like the ignition came from that end, but I didn't think I would say in case I was wrong (it's not usual for small air-cooled engines after all).

I'm quite intrigued by it. :chin:

I always wanted a Tiny Tim, so will be watching with interest. See if I can dig anything up. Military boys might be able to help (they certainly helped me out with the Homelite).

got the dynamo of the engine
got the crank apart and out
got one good piston ring off the other are to fatuged to be used again:roll: theres a shock lol:roll:
got the head stripped and valves out and cleaned up, ready for a lapping in "seats were very good under that crap and rustb:shock:
stems and sleaves were like new considdering they were seized in solid
so it has a good head, canshaft, valves, conrod, piston and bore
just needs rings and a head gasket making ,if the rest comes up like these did ,but bearings and seals will be needed for the crank and the cam followers are still seized solid in the block base
so will keep messing with it from time to time ,gives the kevs cocktail time to work its way in or not Cool
i must be mental as im still trying to save it for him

Sounds like you know how to keep busy Kev. I feel like I haven't stopped in over 2 weeks, & I'm not working!

I thought winter was the time for working on engines? In summer we're just supposed to cart them along to rallies & sit behind them all day. Yeah right! I don't even get a chance to do that, usually up & down all day chatting to the public or cleaning spark plugs.

All good fun though, we wouldn't do it if it made us miserable. Wink

so true matt so true
im usually being requested to sort somthing out on a display that wants to be a sod on the field
best one was at 1000 rally got a call from a stall holder ,kev got a man that needs your assistance
it was an amanco hit miss rolled top
his dad had  got it back from a mechanics workshop some 12mths back ,were it had been for 3 yrs being restored and rebuilt
but it wouldnt run still .
when i looked at it the timing marks were gone and random centerdots all over the cogs here there every bloody were
appart from in the right places , stood back itched me:scratch: scratch
and got the spanners out , put it all back together again  set the trip and lowered the mag on  blowed the fuel through to the carb
2 swings and it was running cheers ,i got a old man crying hunging me and even a kiss on the forhead Shocked
he said he had had taken it to clubs in his area  asked loads of opencrank  men to see what it was  but no one could figure it out
he said ,when he sore this "youngen" hes got no chance ,but bugger me your no  fool when it comes to engines

when i can do this for others with the same hobby ,that is  why i still do it  ,i love to help on others engines at the rallys as it helps pass the hrs and and helps me to work on engines i still dream of owning i.e the  nelson bros model n  i worked on 3 weeks back for another 60-70 yr old  engine man that was at there end  rallys as engine wasnt running anymore with  ignitor mita tube trouble , and the flick mag was dying a coil death ,so found a lad with some old mita bits and bobs  then i  lent him my back up fluresent coil and a battery
turned out he only lives 6 miles from me ,in the cider downing chats while i was working on it for him
i love to get stuck in and help were i can ,or watch and help others if needed  helps me to lurn tricks of the trade
im a hands on learner more than a book worm manual man
reading and writting arent my bestest of skills, but i live and let lurn , this forum is the longest book ive ever kept reading
so theres acredit to all members on here ,as this book never gets boring Very Happy

Hi Kev,
I see that you worked on a Tiny Tim a few years ago - I have just got one that needs some work doing to it.Could you kindly let me know how you removed the rope start flywheel - I just cant get mine to budge and I need to get it off so that I can get to the points etc.Any help would be much appreciated.Thanks.
All the best,
Kev.

hi kev
all the ones ive done are retaining nut and keyed shaft, to get the nut off ,drop a large screw driver or simalar down to the engine flywheel, were the push to start button sits, there is a 1/2" hole were the 2 cowlings join top middle. down there will be the cast iron flywheel cooling fins, take your time but ive never broke a fin off them even the one abouve, there is no were else strong enough to hold it and seeing as theres a hole there it must for that reason
hope this helps
thanks

Hi Kev.
Top Man!
That worked a treat - I would never have thought of that! Thanks.
I have to take the head off as the exhaust valve is stuck open - is there anything that I should look out for/be aware of ?
You wouldn't happen to have a manual or wiring diagram for these engines would you by any chance?
All the best,
Kev.

Hi Kev,
Thanks for that.I looked at  some info on another site, but it was general stuff and not workshop manuals , did'nt really help for a strip down.I did manage to find a wiring diagram of sorts on an American site for a Tiny Tim but not sure if it is for an L124.

I got the engine head off with a struggle - 4 of the bolts came out ok but the last 2 were awkward to say the least and I had to resort to the heat gun to shift them, and in so doing I mangled the scew heads ( they weren't in the best of shape to start with!) - do you know what thread they are and where I can get replacements please?
I am now trying to get the valves out - How did you manage to get yours out?
