Hi Wilson, sorry but do not have a 1019 head, but have a spec 20 with one fitted and have not seen another
and was wondering ho the tank is fitted on your D as mine fits just like an F and have been trying to fine another D like it to compare, any
pics would be a great help to me if you have a spec 20.

hi, Richard.the engine looks tidy.the mounting of the tank looks odd.it looks like you have different parts from different engines on it ,some of the spec 2 had cylinder head number D1019 fitted , the later ones from the engine number141869 had a head with the number D1062. they also had different tanks and brackets. if you want to have the engine looking near original as possible you will need to change some parts. but what parts you will need to change depends on your engine number. I have the DWE book on the lister D story it is very informative of the spec changes, you can give me your engine number if you want. and I might be able to narrow it down a bit. just new to the lister D scene so learning as I go along also new to the laptop as well, still trying to figure it all out. my engines at the moment are a18d2h in bits being restored,a28dh being cannibalised to build my 18d2h,and a spec 13 wanting many parts . hope this helps a bit. Hi Wilson, I to have Davids book on the D but spec 20 information is a bit bleak, the head on my one is a 1019 and has only been drilled out for the tank to fit this way, which is the same as the F type, but the 1019 head was never fitted to Fs so I know that it has to be correct, as for the other parts all is as it should be except I have my doubts about the tank, I think it should have a brass screw top filler and it would have been in the centre top of the tank, saying that in Davids book it also mentions about the separate fuel filter which screws to the block which my block has been drilled for it to have one, at the factory they did not drill and tap blocks etc if parts were not fitted to save costs, as there seems to be not many spec 20s about it is hard to find out what is original or not, thats why I have been on the lookout for the last couple of years for another spec 20, Many thanks Richard

You are correct, the tank should be the one with a brass filler cap. The one fitted is a later type, but this may have been fitted as a replacement during the working life of the engine if the original rotted out.

hi, Richard. blue cat could be right, the tank could have come from something else.if downtime was a factor at the time the tank needed replacing, any tank with any brackets would be made to fit, keeping it original would not be considered. if the engine was not working at the time and was taken on as a project to refurbish then the same still applies. the tank in your picture looks like it has a bayonet fit cap some have a brass threaded one, does this narrow the tank down to a particular year. how many bolt holes have you got in the head to mount the tank with? Hi Wilson,

The head only has 2 holes drilled and tapped for the tank brackets, exactly the same as the F type but the 1019 head was never used on the F types, which I have found out from a good source, I will be on the look out for a tank or I will make one out of the spare tanks I have here.

Hi Paul, it would be perfect for my spec 18, as need one but the guy is wanting twice as much as its worth, will never sell at that price, the one I need has the fuel filler in the centre top of tank,

Hi Richard, tank looks good, I'm going through the same process myself at the moment, collecting parts for my spec 13. I have contact with a man who might have a tank if it's good I'll take it if it's rotten I'll still take it and make a copy, the tank looks better with the brass cap fitted. Wilson.

Hi Wilson, I had an old rusty tank with the screw top and basically cut a hole in my original tank and soldered the neck in place, I then soldered a plate in where the original filler neck was, then repainted.Years ago I used to do repairs on cars by lead filling and last year someone on fleebay was selling some tinning thought it would come in handy some day.
