Brass fuel needle valve for Crossley P1060

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a small turned product engineering company that can provide me with a needle valve as per attached photo.

Got your PM not sure wether i can help you, a lot would depend on the threads although i have a lathe i cannot cut a lot of the threads as i do not have the change wheels to set the screw cutting i cut most of my threads with dies so again depends on the thread sizes if i have the dies then its possible.

Many thanks for your reply.

There are 3 brass threads on the valve,2 external,(1 on the actual needle and 1 on the gland nut) they need to screw into the valve body,the 3rd thread is internal gland nut onto the actual needle.
I am happy to post the needle valve and valve body to you if you can assist me with the manufacture of new,as being so low down on the front of the engine,very susceptible to damage,this was how I found it on the drive of friend,I have tried to straighten,but is seized half way along the thread so I cannot easily adjust the fuel flow,I have some thread gauges "somewhere",I’ll see if I can dig them out and perhaps shed a little more light on the thread sizes,if not would you be prepared for me to post to you?

The valve would need to be apart so that i can see how its made and how it functions,see if you can get it apart then a decision can be made also let me know the diameter and T P I of all threads.

Hi. Chiefy,

The valve action is straight forward,the main needle should screw into the large body of the valve up to its seat and the gland nut used to tighten down.

I have measured the threads and sizes as follows:

30TPI X1/4” (needle valve)
24TPI X 1/2” (gland nut external)
30TPI X 1/4” (gland nut internal)

Got your info i would say you definitely need to have these screw cut on a lathe and i do not recognise the thread form from the sizes you quote i dont have any taps or dies in these sizes to match the TPI it makes me wonder what thread form they are.

Hi,I have contacted and arranged with John to carry out the necessary,my friends from the U.K. will be taking the valve back with them to post to John from the U.K.,this lessens the chance of being lost in mail here in Portugal!

Just watched the videos and it may run into a 3rd one for the knurled cap, I liked the way he modified the die holders so he was happy with the thread fits.

I like the fact that John has the "it's got to do the job and look right" approach rather than "that'll do" as demonstrated by him having 2 or 3 attempts before he was happy with the product.
