I've seen a number of posts here regarding the merits and demerits of using linseed oil to coat bare metal parts to prevent rust. Good - cheap, effective, and looks the part, Bad - takes for ever to dry unless thinned with white spirit. Can't find the posts now so apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, with my wood working hat on I often use Danish Oil / Teak oil as a preparatory treatment before waxing or French polishing.  There is no hard and fast formula so far as I can see but it's generally a mixture of Tung Oil and Linseed Oil with some more volatile thinners.

One coat of Danish oil and place in greenhouse for 24 hours then repeat..

Bone dry and not the least bit tacky. Time will tell if it keeps the rust off.

Hi
I have been using Danish oil on wood, metal and old painted parts for years with good results. If it's too shiny a very light rub with fine scotch bright when dry dulls it up a bit.
Screwfix no nonsense brand is just as good as any but at a cheaper price.
