Most of my 'new' Lister D will require re-painting. The fuel tank in particular is in need of sprucing up. I know about Mid Brunswick being the correct colour top coat and gloss is the most accurate to the original but my question is a red oxide ok for a primer/undercoat?

Many thanks.

That's what I use, 1 coat red oxide, 2 undercoat, normally a dark grey one and 2 top coats.

I normally use Blackfriar red oxide primer, seems to give good results

Done mine with red oxide, give it all a good clean first then a rub down and another clean. The primer goes on well and left to dry over days, second coat was given the next day but after that I left it. Then two coats of brunswick green and it finished lovely. I think the red oxide was from screwfix but not sure, I have used in on quiet a few out door steel works and always found it very good. Dont be in a rush let it dry properly, that pays dividends.
