Villiers Mk10 V engine

Until recently I thought the "V" engine was only made in Mk20 & Mk25 versions.

Looks like there was a Mk10 version too...




Cleaned the paint off with thinners and wire wool to find this




Makers stamp on the cowling dates it to 1944




Only seems to be missing a HT lead, but the coil reads OK so fingers crossed.

An early one then, they didn't have lip seals on the crankshaft but used a spring loaded bronze gland on the front and just a return scroll on the magneto side.

I always thought that Villiers used the "V Engine" name during WW2 as a disguise, just in the same way that Petters just put a "P" on their military PU8 engines.

But helpfully cast 'VILLIERS' in big letters on the crankcase...

The boys at Villiers were obviously not as sharp as the lads at Petters then

It has "VILLIERS" cast into the Mk.10, but my Mk.25 "V" engine only has casting numbers but no name.
