Lister D fuel tap issue
I've sorted out the fuel tank and have some new gauze ready to solder onto the bottom of the tap but I have hit as problem.
The fuel tap is incredibly tight - can it be stripped down and has anyone else had this difficulty please?
Thank you.

Can you put up a picture so we can see what sort of tap it is as there are several designs, most do come apart.

Close the split pin, pull that out then you will be able to remove the washer, spring and locating plate, carefully work the tap back and forth and it should pop out as it is a taper seal on them, once you have done that you can use some fine valve grinding paste to "seat" the 2 parts together, just a small amount and then turn the tap back and forth with a little pressure, after this has cleaned it all up then do the same with brasso as this will remove any fine marks, clean it up, smear of grease and reassemble in reverse order.

Re: Lister D fuel tap issue
Update - I'd be grateful of some more advice please.
Split pin is out but was very brittle so will need replacing about 1/16 inch. The washer on top of the spring won't come off - the spring will compress and the washer rotates but it will not come off. Without this removal I can't remove the tap to lap it back in.
Any thoughts please?
Many thanks.

Is there a burr round the split pin hole stopping the washer coming off?

Not at all, I should have realised and actually, now I think about it, it’s an obvious possible solution which, if it wasn’t late I ought to have worked out for myself!

Re: Lister D fuel tap issue
The fuel tap has cleaned up beautifully! I used tooth paste and then brasso to lap. It's still tightening up a bit but much better. I used a piece of brass picture wire as a lock instead of a split pin which at 1/16 inch max I was finding difficulty to source.

Re: Lister D fuel tap issue
Your soldering station wont heat the tap body enough to melt solder on it, find yourself soldering irons that can be heated by your blowtorch and warm the brass with them. The heat to warm the brass tap might burn/melt the mesh.
