Petter A1 manual and gear removal

Hi, new to stationary engines and have started on the strip down of my recently acquired Petter A1 resto project. It's not fighting me yet but I'd appreciate some advice on removal of the gear wheels.

There's not much clearance between the gears and the case to get a puller behind. The "crank gear" and "timing gear" both have a number of threaded holes which appear to offer opportunity to wind in suitable bolts (presumably Whitworth thread?) to push the gears off their shafts. And how is the magneto drive shaft best removed after the gear has been removed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone can provide a pdf copy of a workshop manual I'd be grateful.

Suggest you start looking for cheap digital caliper, thread gauge, and thread tables - Zeus Precision Data Charts and Reference Tables for Drawing Office, Toolroom & Workshop is a good start.
Check around before buying from Amazon - silly prices sometimes.
Hobby quality digital caliper from your local German discounter, Screwfix, or Toolstation for about £20 and Silverline thread gauge for about a fiver.

The camshaft is one big lump the gear does not come off. You should have a small plate with
two bolts close to the gear wheel undo them there should be some shims behind it. A little wiggle should come out. Make sure you know where the timing marks are. The four bolt holes
are for attaching a shaft to it if you have the parts to do it.

I bought a set of three 3 leg pullers for about £12 on eBay.
The smallest 3" I think? I modified on a grinder

This the fit behind the crankshaft timing gear.

I modified a spare bolt to fit the crankshaft, countersunk to take the puller screw.

Best manual but not entirely helpful.


Make sure this oilway channel is at the top when reassembling. Ignore my fly weights yours will most likely be cast iron.
