Not another broken down dirty old relic who enjoys playing with engines.
Hello everybody... During the lockdown I managed to repair a lot of stuff I had knocking around and I found myself at a loose end come breakout looking for a new project. I always feel that whoever or whatever controls the direction of our lives, or not, decides which way to go and in my case pointed me in the direction of Facebook. I was catching up with friends when up popped a Petter A11 motor for sale. That, whoever or whatever, which I shall now call fate, sent that engine to me so today I am now the proud owner of a very dirty but restorable stationary engine. My only problem is I can't get it out of the boot of the car.
I would be grateful if anybody can point me in the direction of finding out the motors age. It is a 3 BHP, 1500 RPM, Type A11 with a serial number 522099.
I am really looking forward to refurbishing this beast, if only I could get it out of my boot.
With Kind regards... Jeff.

Hi Jeff, welcome aboard.
A restoration project from the boot would be different would removing the flywheel get it to a manageable weight?.

Hello and welcome!
I say leave the engine in there, go to to the local garage, tell them you've got a misfire and open the boot...

Hi Jeff and a very warm welcome to the forum.
Re your comment about the controller of our fates, I recently finished reading A Brief History of Time (after a number of restarts !!) Apparently there are loads of Quantum / Astro physicists and Mathematicians who reckon the observable universe is not random enough - thus implying a Designer !!
Good luck with the Petter - plenty of sound advice to be had here.

Now thats one book I've read and enjoyed several times over the years, quantum physics is pure theory created to answer questions that classical physics cannot as yet give an answer. If the universe was designed why haven't the imperfections of it never been corrected by the designer and why amongst millions of star systems is earth the only inhabited planet.

Hi Jeff: regarding finding out your engines date of build and who it was supplied to a chap by the name of Jim Perkins held all the Petter records etc and could also supply some parts. He was a retired Petter service engineer and you may come across his name on various forums and also the Petter Facebook page, alas Jim sadly died a few weeks ago and I believe that his records may have gone to one of the engine museums but I dont know which one. Maybe someone on here can help?
Pete.

The approximate date of your engine is 1945 to 1951.

Hello everybody... Thank you all for your thoughts and information. I have been busy with the engine strip down, interspersed with trips to the hospital but to find that my engine was once owned by such an iconic person is mind blowing. I will be putting my endeavors in a blog soon along with some pics.
