pulley speed
hi all,
can anyone tell me the correct RPM for, what looks like, a Lister domestic water pump, so i can figure out what size pulley to put on the drive shaft.
The pump i think is a copy, could be wrong but their is no makers name just says Made in England, and, For Spares Quote Machine Number 21095, could be a stationary engine parts copy, if that helps anybody
the pump has an 8 1/2" pulley, the engine is 700rpm given the pump rpm i can calculate the drive pulley size, if that makes sense, failing that what size pulley is commonly used
any advice would be much appreciated as i can't find any more info on it and now i've fixed the engine i'd like to get the pump working at the correct speed
cheers steve

Re: pulley speed
Lister pumps were made by other manufacturers who supplied other companies as well, as to speed find a pulley thats near to your engine pulley, you dont need to drain a lake.

thanks maryalice for your reply.
i don't have an engine pulley the pump pulley is 8 1/2" and engine speed is 700RPM given the pump speed i can work out the engine pulley size
@ robostar5, The data plate on my domestic pumps states 500rpm
thanks for that i'll get me brain in gear and sort it out, my pump is almost identical to your so obviously a no name make
i'll figure out how to enter 2 quotes another time

Re: pulley speed
Sorry missed that, same rule can apply, does your engine have a flat belt pulley, it would be smaller than your pump pulley so the pump will run slower than the engine 700rpm and the V belt will be driven easily on the engine pulley.

Re: pulley speed
This should help, a pulley calculator, just put your known values in and it works out the rest

Re: pulley speed
@ maryalis thanks for the reply and yes it is smaller and a flat belt, the v belt in the picture is on robostar5's pump
@ robostar5 thanks for the linc unfortunately i'd figured it out with the information i had
the way i did it below
motor 700 RPM divided by pump 500 RPM = 1.4 pulley ratio
pump pulley 8.5" divided by 1.4 pulley ratio = 6" (as near as) driven pulley
so 6" it is
i also worked backwards to check for an RPM and got the the same results
thanks steve
