Hello dear engine friends,

Not so long ago I bought a 1927 Lister B type in unrestored but good mechanical condition.
The magneto was rewound and it now starts very easy but it only runs with the choke disk 50% closed and with the fuel control almost in the start position. (rich)
Do I need to adjust the butterfly flap behind the carb? It also spits out fuel during starting (happens not all the time)
I was a user of the old fozzers forum but i hope i can ask some questions here!
Regards, Haddock Very Happy

Haddock,
I've got two Lister A's that run the same as yours, if you get a Lister A/B manual you will see that Listers recommend you run off load with the choke shut approximately half, you should be able to lean the mixture but as you do you will have to shut the choke even more.
Internal Fire Museum of Power, Tan Y Groes Wales do a nice reproduction of original manuals will all of the details you will require and have an Ebay shop.

Maryalice
P.S. love the Belgium castings and frost plaque Very Happy

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I found a manual online!
It is a nice Lister made in England and put together in Landen Belgium.
It was not exactly cheap but it is 99% original and complete. Hard to find these days.

If I get a chance at the weekend I will take the covers off my 1923 single flywheel Lister B and take some pictures.

I have it running now with the choke half open/closed but when i try to slow it down (les tension on the spring) then it wants to stop.
It starts in the first swing and the timing is set at 15 degrees before TDC but it is stil barking.
I added two extra fibre washers under the overflow pipe in the carburettor, this seems to help?

I went to look at a round Lister tank and came home with another engine Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes  I cant't help it...
Missing the cast iron base and a magneto. (but it was cheap Laughing )
