Hi Guys and Gals

I've just purchased a Bull pup engine and I have been told it runs on a trembler coil ignition after 30 years of engines this is the 1st trembler coil engine I've had
please can someone explain what I need and how I go about setting it up

Many thanks
Graham

Never had to deal with one but I think I can shed some light.

Take a bog standard Villiers coil. A few hundred thick copper windings on LT side, many thousands of much thinner turns on HT side.

Consider what would happen if you connected a battery across the LT coil. Current flows in the coil and the iron core becomes an electromagnet. Next, imagine placing a steel spring near one end of the iron core. It would be pulled towards the core. Use this to form a contact which breaks the current flow.
So;

Connect voltage
Current flows
Core is now a magnet
Contact is pulled toward core
Switch breaks current.
Magnetic field collapses
Contact springs back away from core
Switch returns to 'ON' position
Current flows
Core is now a magnet
Contact is pulled toward core
Rinse and repeat...

Sadly that coil has a duff HT coil so I couldn't show spark (apart from the ones burning away the contact Laughing ) I built something similar as a kid using a Normally Closed relay wired with the LT supply via the NC contact and put a car ignition coil in series. Monster sparks. Very Happy

I can't imagine how you would deal with timing such a setup. No doubt others more knowledgable than I will be along shortly

Ford Model 'T' used  trembler coils! If you know of anyone with a Model 'T' or knowledge of them, they may be able to help!

Weldman, go to this link for a diagram https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=Yg4uZLuM&id=2A5504FDD5CCA1D70799971A9E228665AEFD9794&thid=OIP.Yg4uZLuM8HOwDwkd95w_8wHaHx&mediaurl=https%3a%2f%2fth.bing.com%2fth%2fid%2fR.620e2e64bb8cf073b00f091df79c3ff3%3frik%3dlJf9rmWGIp4alw%26riu%3dhttp%253a%252f%252fcommons.princeton.edu%252fjosephhenry%252fwp-content%252fuploads%252fsites%252f71%252f2018%252f07%252fFCUB52PG68HCYJ0.LARGE_.jpg%26ehk%3dO8dS70ELbcz0WsVY2J9w5AD3jkMMsJMStdMYmAXhAqg%253d%26risl%3d%26pid%3dImgRaw%26r%3d0&exph=734&expw=700&q=Buzz+Coil+Wiring+Diagram&simid=607999552149657539&FORM=IRPRST&ck=FFC5E0E3D0A1FF2D930D74BFAE81DEBB&selectedIndex=0&idpp=overlayview&ajaxhist=0&ajaxserp=0

They are available to buy knew, I have one that looks like a modern HT coil, somewhere in my garage.

Or you could go fully electronic - hidden in a 'vintage' box

Thanks Guys
Looks like I have a few options, May start by hiding a mag on the trolley somewhere just to get it going while I figure the rest out
Thanks for all your help
