Lister D oil scraper ring

Broke one or two!, so I am now thinking of using a spare ring that came off another D, except this ring is tapered, in good condition, I’ve re sized gap, but I’m unsure if the taper faces up or down? I’m inclined to think it should face up?
Can Anyone can help in this? Would be much appreciated
