1951 Lister D Restoration
I've just started to restore my 1951 Lister D and thought I would share the progress.
The machine had a seized exhaust valve and someone had swapped the head nuts over so that brass domed nuts were in the valve side with steel nuts in the water side! Also, one of the push rods and the "piece" that sits on top of one of the valves was missing.
So far, I've removed the head and the valves. Head bolts were fairly easy to remove.
Apart from being very dirty, the piston looks ok (to me anyway) as do the valves. I'm not sure why the exhaust valve was stuck but it's free now.
Next stage will be I think to clean the head, valves and piston.
I'd like to thank the people who have helped me so far - in particular Maryalice, Admin (Paul) and Martin Percy.
Below are some screenshots from videos I've taken for a YouTube channel I've created to document my progress. Apologies for the poor quality of the photos - in future I'll try to remember to take some stills.

Craig,
Morning, strip it completely as you will have to clean and lubricate the bearings etc and remove corrosion you cant see.

I know that no one will see it apart from myself (and the next bloke who refurbishes the mag) but I thought I would share what I did to disguise a modern condenser so that it looks like an original for my RS1. Essentially, I just cut the ends off of the old one and soldered the ends of the new one to either end of the original and then hid my work under the cover. Pretty pointless really I know but I'm quite pleased with the results.

Far from pointless, a good idea in my opinion.

Re: 1951 Lister D Restoration
Had another play this evening and managed to remove the crankshaft, piston and governor assembly. Piston, crankshaft and bearings look good to me (but I'm not an expert!!). I started to disassemble the governor so that I can remove the remnants of the taper pin that appears to have snapped off. I tried knocking the pin back through (working on the smaller diameter end) but so far no luck! I guess I probably need to apply some heat and have another go!
