Ideas please as to what it would be for
Hi all, collected this Villiers this morning, it does not have an ID plate but it looks to be a MK12 as its very similar to the other engine I collected at the same time which is a MK 12.
What has me puzzled is what would the fitted reduction box be used for as the protruding small part that is 2 inches long and approx 1/4 of an inch wide on the left side of the box near a circular piece that looks like an inlet/exhaust valve bottom with the screwdriver slot in the face, this piece turns anti clockwise in relation to the drive shaft at opposite end of the box this shaft turns same way as the crankshaft when turning engine over by hand. Also have never seen a red. box with a fitted oil filler point as this one has. The weight must be around 50% more than a normal MK 12 with this red. box being fitted.
Ideas, suggestions please.

Maybe a winch, using the two shafts for forward and reverse ?? Only a guess though.

Is that a word or a number on the right?

Apologies to mattblack, I should of added the letters/numbers that are on the casing of the reduction gearbox, they are as follows DA10216H LB.
Blue Cat, a winch now that seems a good suggestion, the reduction ratio is approx. 50 to 1 between the engine output shaft and other driving point.
Have just been told by a friend who knows Villiers engines inside out that the red engine with the strange reduction gearbox would of been fitted to a Barford Atom Garden Tractor he repaired one a couple of weeks ago.

It's from a 'garden tractor' rather than a rotavator per se. You could attach various implements to them for working a smallholding.
Don't know if it's still available but there is a free one here:

Thank you Woodsman for the link yes that is what I have here, so friend was correct well nearly as he called it a rotavator. Is it any use to anyone as I had to take both and have no need for this one, will not be a lot of them folding things, so PM me only please to have a looksee or to talk, just before it goes onto that site you know where I mean, one other thing it is liftable but would not like to carry it very far and I have done nothing with it as yet but it turns over by hand.
This is going to a new home later this week will likely be on Easter Sunday
