Lister D Type Empty Lister D Type

Post by pettyofficer Sat Nov 17 2012, 22:17

I've just bought a Lister D S/N 197507 Type 28 DH
Can anyone tell me from this information if it is a clockwise or anti-clockwise rotation.
Unfortunately it doesn't have a carb so I cannot see which port it should go on.
Thanks
Martin

If it is just marked up as a DH then it should be standard rotation. Reverse engines were usually marked as DHR or sometimes DHZ.

Pete.

clockwise rotation carb goes on the left port as viewed from the ports...A big clue is also look at the governor arm and see which port it also lines up against...

It's not a reverse rotation, I put a starting handle from a running engine and it engaged straight away. Thanks for the help, I now don't need to go looking for the special carb and bits.

The carb on rev rotation isnt a special one.. its a normal carb but the throttle spindle has a pin which is knocked out and turned round so its on the opposite side simlar to governor is adjustable as you do both on parrafin engines..
There was a few D type carbs on ebay or post a wanted ad as someone may have one..

I've now started on work on one of the engines, the brass water tap is missing. I know that has a 1/4 BSP on it but the insert is also missing. It has a rusty piece of thread in it instead, anybody got one of these inserts or could tell me what the outer thread is. It's Part 236 in the lister parts catalogue.

Thanks Martin
