Crossley 1030 Empty Crossley 1030

Post by Lewis MacRae Thu Sep 12 2013, 20:08

Hi guys, I decided to put the crossley on a new (to Me!) trolley I have had this engine for a couple of months, Bought along side a Fairbanks Morse Z, I originally bought the trolley just for the wheels but when taking it back to the camper realised it would be idle for the crossley as I'm keeping it original. Took me 3 attempts at getting it just right, straps were always in the wrong place!

anyway here's some pics, I included some pics of how I originally got the straps under the engine, I jacked it up. Also Just out of curiosity how much do they weigh?

they are good little engines if treated right! those 4 bolts are 4 an adaptor plate to easily convert it to tank cooling

Haven't a clue what they weigh but the Crossley/Gascoigne vacuum pump that I have is pretty Hernia inducing on its own!Shocked   I will get an engine to drive it 'one day' in the future when I have a larger van.Smile

Pete.

Nice original lump of iron! Be careful of the oil filler on these as they are only held on with 2 bolts and are easy to snap if you lump it onto the neck.

That one is a PHE with the light flywheels so could have been part of a genny set.

True they are a lump but not a half ton lump, just feels like it!!! Between me, the ol' chap and my brother we have had quite a few of these over the years in most sizes, 4 of the 2 1/2, a pair of 3, 3 of the 3 1/2, a 7 and a compressor/engine set.
