Can anyone advise me about engine oil for these engines,my operating handbook advises below 16 faranhiet Castrol S.A.E 20, 16 to 90 degrees Castrol XL(S.A.E.30),do the oil grades of modern oils match these, or do they have addatives and do i need to stick to straight oils, any advice welcome.Chiefy.

I run all my petrol engine's on Wilkinsons 20/50 and have never had a problem in 20 years. Other's will have different ideas though, straight 30 was what was generally used when most of 'our' engine's were new but times and oils change.

Pete.

Hi Pete,

Have a look at common or garden (apologies for the pun) lawnmower oil. There are plenty of SAE-30 equivalent around
