Bit late replying but I'm reading an old issue of 'Stationary Engine' at the moment and just came across an article on spark plugs. It lists the plug for the MK1 Midget as as a Champion 8com (original) or D16 (replacement)

Looks like there are a lot of alternatives: https://www.sparkplug-crossreference.com/convert/CHAMP_PN/D16%20

Hope this is of use.

They should be fine on any fairly hot plug as long as the magneto is in tip top shape. Myself I never find D16 to be much use, picking up 2nd hand old style plugs field better results.

Thanks for that - I now have the D16 plug and will see how it goes. I will look out for old style plugs when the rallies start again next year - hopefully!
