Lister D exhaust pipe

Good afternoon.

I have removed the exhaust assembly. Pipe and baffler have come off the engine flange cleanly but are corroded together - no amount of penetrating oil is going to free it.

Stationary engine spares have long been out of stock for exhaust pipes although they have bafflers.

I am going to try and source an exhaust pipe but need to check this out with those of you have more experience in this area.

My thinking:

1 inch diameter pipe with a BSP tapered thread both ends.

Am I correct? If so is the BSP tapered thread a standard size please?

either tapered or parallel, which ever you have, measure the pipe inside diameter not the outside as pipe is measured by the bore.

As maryalice says nominal size is based on the inside diameter, measured in inches, of a steel pipe for which the thread was intended. So a 1/2" BSP thread actually measures more like 3/4" with a ruler.

Plenty of info online. If you haven't already, also get thread tables for BSW, BSF, BSC etc.

The reason pipes are measured on the internal diameter is for calculating flow rates through them in design.

The pipe is definitely
1 inch internally.

This is the thread - just photographed. I'm guessing a local plumbing supply may be able to help.

Your average Plumber is unlikely to hold steel pipe for that size try your local BSS Branch and ask for offcuts as you dont want 20 feet

Thank you. I agree about a foot being a little too long. But is the size and thread correct?

I think Lister D are 1" BSP, it's been nearly 30 years since I've owned one......

I've used these guys a few times.

Thanks for all the advice - I have learned a great deal about BSP and BSPT threads.

However, I've just realised I've been dim!  The Lister D silencer on Stationary engine parts has a six inch pipe attached -the perfect length.  It was right under my nose.  Sorry for wasting everyone's time but, as I said, I have learned a great deal so I thank you again.
