New member with a Lister D
So here's my stationery engine story: As a young boy living in Lincolnshire in the 80's, I lived next to a garage which my farther helped out in from time to time. The owner passed away when I was around six years old and left me in his will an old engine. From what I can gather, it was never used at the garage but a farm not far away. It was in the garage to be stripped and rebuilt which I believe was done just before his death. It wasn't complete, missing a tank and a starting handle. I'm told it was feed from a large external tank hence the why it didn't have one. So as a six year old I was messing around with a Lister D. We gave it a coat of paint and ran it up from time to time but for most of its life it has lived in the back of the shed. Over the years walking around country shows and steam rallies, we saw many Lister D's but hardly any like mine. We knew is was an early model but that was all.
I'm 40 now and a year or two ago, whilst visiting, My farther and I ended up pulling it out of the shed with the idea of me trying to get it in the back of my car to take home. It hadn't been run since ~1994. Checked the oil, put a little petrol in the carb and she fired right up (I'll post some pictures at some point). Doing a little research I've worked out it's a 1928-29 shaft drive with the low tank. I cannot confirm just yet but I think it has the low compression piston as it might have run on paraffin at some point, I do have the heat exchanger block with it. I also think a few parts are not period correct: The mag looks to be a later Lucas RS1 unit and the carb has a bowl which the one in pictures don't seem to have. As I say, it's also missing the tank. The plan is to take it apart to make transport in the back of the car possible and to restore it. The first task will likely be to fabricate a tank if I cannot find a used item. Anyway, with the other things on the go I will be a long term project.

Hi Peter, and a warm welcome to the forum.
Plenty of Lister expertise here and a tank shouldn't be too hard to come by. Please post a few pictures in New Projects/Restorations once you get started. Good luck.
