Wolsley block

Hi all, when I bought my house 40+ years ago there was a WD2 in a shed with a frost burst damaged block, I have finally got round to sorting it out, it turns freely, no sticking valves and has compression, would you advise patching the block or sourcing a replacement, any advice appreciated
I removed the flywheel so I have good access to the repair area

I've repaired them in the past, just got some cast rods and welded them up, if you need a block I think I have one spare.

Thanks Appletop, the popped out piece is missing and I cannot weld, does it have to be cast welded to cast? I was going to to tap the block and bolt a cover over the hole with gasket, as it is not a pressurised system I thought it may work, I will post pic of hole,

When I was stripping the paint off mine I found car body filler seems a popular place to go is the flywheel side




Not sure how it was repaired, but I could see a threaded bit sticking inside the water jacket




You could see the repaired area once it was painted




But it didn't look too bad once built up

I know, there is a bare block on eBay with a repair of similar size, £18 start price, I would have that but with collection only it’s a bit far for me, there is just enough at the sides to drill and tap so I will have a go, keep you posted

And a proper 'shed find' engine too.

Dearest mattblack, my sanity went a long time ago, I would. Like to keep the engine original as possible, might even leave it scruffy, someone said on this site ‘in its working clothes’ struck a chord, watch this space
