A water cooled engine to please MaryAlice... though I'm sure he would prefer a Lister....

Noticed this advertised on Faceache local at a price I thought would be foolish to miss. especially when chain drive Lister Ds are going for £300+ over here in NI.. 4hr round trip to get it, unloaded, cleaned the points and a splash of fuel it soon fired up.

Smoking a bit as I unloaded it myself and oil has run up the bore.

Steve,

Thank you for that, nice little engine, I'm not anti air cooled, I have four of my own, but proper water cooled engines on here are like hens teeth.
I put a few pictures on here just after Easter to show case Internal Fire, wont bother anymore because nobody seemed interested.

A four hour round trip 'local' Steve? Shocked Wink Nice engines: I really should show my one more often as it hasn't been out since 2019 but it's pretty much buried at the back of my container!

Pete.

Then you know what to do next time you're in Englandshire, it would pretty well pay for your trip over.

Bit much for the hand luggage. But yes should get a van and load it up.

Been doing some more digging. It was supplied to a John McElderry but not information on who that was. I've since found out John McElderry was/is (still around) an agricultural supplier based in Ballymoney Co Antrim, which is about 20 miles from where I picked it up in Limavady.

Seems to run really nicely, not sure what there is to sort out! Always interesting when you are able to identify some of the history behind an engine, especially when it proves to be local to you. Hope you're able to find the space and time to undertake whatever it is you want to achieve with it.

Neil.

Thanks Neil,

Paint job isn't the best and I'd like to take my son through an engine. Fairly easy engine to learn on.

Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve, I've had a butchers at your wood butchery and it looks good to me. Just wondered if you were able to involve your son in the trolley build, as you had hoped to involve him in the restoration.

I would have done but it was done in a hurry to get it moved into it's new home.
Trolley is going to need modification, it won't go up my ramps. Laughing

Steve, I wonder why yours does not have the revolving air vents on the carby? my 6PB has this and I find its a juggling act to get the mixture just right for normal running as I have to adjust the air mixture while fighting against the butterfly which is self adjusted by the governor for setting the speed. How do you control the mixture for cold starting?

Also do you think the HT lead support bracket on yours is home made or factory? my engine does not have this. Mine also does not have the 90 degree spark plug adaptor, I always winch mine in and out of my van cylinder head first to prevent oiling up the bore from crankcase oil.

Not sure, some were fitted with the auto choke thing seems to work ok.

Not sure on the mag lead holder, sure does feel the part, I think some early engines didn't have the 90degree elbow for the spark plug. Was introduced due to fowling iirc. They also go missing easily.
I try and keep the filler at the lowest level, so cylinder head facing the winch.

Found the sparks on the PB again, 2 new condensers (cheap ebay one and a Villiers service ones) sorted it.

It's now ready to be taken apart by the boi... see what he find on his adventure.
