Hi all,

Just picked up a WW2 Air Ministry villiers engine, that is ex RAF and was attached to a convertor board that would have the health and safty fainting!

There is a desire to get it going again, i like a challange!, so far i have compression! but no spark!

Once i have worked out how to upload some photos i will let you lot have a look!

Hello all,

Thanks for the replies! Hopefully I have aVilliers V for Victory engine! Ex RAF 20240410
ttached a photo of the engine.

No spark so I need to test the condenser and the coil i think.. Is there a guide explaining how to do this anywhere?

And what is the correct spark plug? It has a champion N12 in it currently, is that the correct one?

IIRC Original park plug was Lodge CB.3 No doubt someone else can confirm.
Try Green Sparkplug Co for equivalent.

Just pulled the cover off the points and condenser, I think someone has been fiddling...

Also hopefully a picture of the current HT lead attached to the spark plug!!.

Looks like a new HT lead is required!  Have a look for for Hyperlon (I think) copper stranded and old school brass connector  
If you go for a modern style plug cap then make sure there is no resistor.
The bakelite screw-in sleeve in the backplate may well be seized - plenty of Plusgas / GT87 and patience required!
Take it steady and keep posting.

Just checked spark plug - Lodge CB.3 Equiv from Green Spark plug

They also have spade terminals.

First port of call should be the coil.
HT side should have a resistance of 4.5 K - there is every chance it will be open circuit!! If not, you are in luck. Fingers Crossed
LT side should be very low ohms - it will probably show as short circuit on a digital multimeter.
Make sure you slip a piece of card between the points so that the coil isn't earthed when testing.
