Does anyone know what size nut and bolt sizes need for a 1930'ish shaft drive. Some of the original ones are missing and the others are damaged. As I am not an engineer I was hoping someone could give me a list.

Thank you, Stephen

Hello,

I think the Tread size is BSW (British Standard Whitworth), not sure on size, might be worth buying a pair of vernier callipers and measuring whats there.

Cheers Steve

Stephen, have you tried looking on ebay as you can get them from there, also you sometimes get the odd seller that's stripped an engine and sells of the parts including the nuts and bolts but not many strip and sell the parts from the early shaftys as there worth more as a runner.

Thanks for the help.
It may sound obvious but if for exampe a 5/16 BSW spanner fits a nut then that is the size of nut I need to buy a 5/16 BSW?

in spanner size 5/16 BSW is the same as 3/8 BSF which is 0.600 AF (across flats)

see chart here

http://www.timebus.co.uk/rlh/whitworth.htm

the difference between BSW and BSF is the number of threads per inch so

BSW is 5/16 18

BSF is 5/16 22 and 3/8 20

see charts here

http://www.britishfasteners.com/threads/bsw.html

http://www.britishfasteners.com/threads/bsf.html

bencam43 says they are BSW and i have no reason to doubt that so if nuts and bolts are 0.600.across flats they should be 5/16 BSW

hope this helps

Hi Stephen, what ones are you after?

I think the bulk of the ones on a lister D are mainly 5/16 BSW. I have few of these in a tin. Send me a message of what you are after and I will see what I can do for you.

Cheers

Stephen, all the nuts and bolts you will need for your "D" are WHITWORTH The spanner sizes that you will need are 3/16" whit spanner to fit a 1/4"WHIT BOLT & NUT 1/4" whit spanner to fit a 5/16" WHIT BOLT & NUT and a 5/16" whit spanner to fit a 3/8" WHIT BOLT & NUT,
the cyl head nuts are 7/16 whit and you will require a 3/8" WHITWORTH SOCKET FOR THOSE.! ! ! !
