Petter A2
I have just acquired a Petter A2 for my first ever project, can anyone tell me where I can find her history and any advice on restoring her to a running state.
I have cleaned her plate and found she is No:500974
Thanks in advance

my first engine was an A1 which needed a total rebuild, the layout is a bit different on yours but you may find it useful to read.

Re: Petter A2
Thanks I will have a look.
As you can see mine is missing a few parts, one being the pulley, do you know if they are easy to get hold of.
A starting handle is my next big thing if I can find the right one.

Peter A1 shafts are 1 1/2" if that helps, and this be the handle you require

Re: Petter A2
Parts are easy to obtain for Petter A1's so most of the parts you need should be the same as yours but you need to have a good look at them first. If your not 100% sure ask the seller to send you more pics or sizes.
The Pulley is a inch and a half same as the Lister D so that shouldn't be a problem getting the correct size pulley either for flat or V belts.

Re: Petter A2
The Lister pulley will fit the shaft ok but the Petter keyway is smaller. I am planning to make a stepped key to get mine a nice snug fit, though I suppose that you could pack the pulley keyway out on the sides?

Re: Petter A2
I forgot about the key way oops I didn't need to do anything with mine as it also had a grub screw which tightened it up nicely.

Re: Petter A2
There is a key on the shaft but seems solid in the groove so got some penetrating spray on it at the mo.
If I can get it off then I can clean it up ready for when I get a pulley.

Re: Petter A2
Good luck with getting the key way out they either fall out or you think they are welded to the shaft. There's a few different tools about to remove them one sells on ebay for £20ish but you could make your own, there is a thread with pics and sizes(I think) of what you could make.

Re: Petter A2
Thanks for the info Stu, so far it is not budging but I will carry on trying.
Also thanks Kev for the E-mail, it arrived and got printed off straight away.
Made a bit of a mistake after putting a new bolt on the mag, I had to take it out and put it to one side, the cog got spun , now got to line it up again, just hope I get it right.

Re: Petter A2
Found a Gas up and sale near me on Sunday, hope I might find a starting handle, Its over at Hassocks near Brighton, should be a good day.
Got the engine back together now, only doing a small restoration as I don't have a workshop, everything is done outside on a friends farm( a very muddy farm), living in a flat with no garage is not the ideal situation.
Trying to get a garage through the local council, private rent is more than I can afford till I get back into work.

Hi Griz, can you possibly PM me the details of that event? (or put them up on here). I'm in Sussex (East Sussex, but Hassocks is well within my reach) I would love to come along. There seems to be very little to do with stationary engines down this way over the winter. I'm sure my brother & his boys would love to come along as well.

Careful Nuts you could end up sleeping rough if you go and buy something
Good luck in your search there's always Enstone Nov 10th where you might find what you need, sorry don't know where it's at but it's down south somewhere

Right, I think we (Ianhw77k & myself) will be on for this one. I fancy bringing a couple of our latest engines along too. Maybe my little JAP & Ian could bring his Diesel Petter. Maybe he should bring his boys along too. I'll try to remember to bring my insurance papers & hopefully they'll let us run.
If you want to introduce yourself then keep your eyes open for us, our engines are both in the resto section, he drives a metallic blue Citroen Synergie (like a Peugeot 806), I'm always wearing a baseball cap, with long hair & looking rather tatty.
Thanks for the details, maybe see you there.
(Oh yes, we'll be in his car, I can't fit engines in mine & I can't afford to put petrol in it either! )

Re: Petter A2
Glad I could help.
Thought you might like to see the latest photo of my engine, not quite there but near enough.
Not too bad
Now see the area I have to work in.
Hopefully things will get better soon and I will be able to get into a proper workshop area.
