Is there a company out that would rewind the coil off a Lucas magneto as we've discovered mine has a break in it? Any rough idea of how much it would cost?
Thanks
Gary

I've got a local guy who has them on the shelf, about £75 plus postage. But Matt's bloke is cheaper.

It's a stationary coil mag, so as long as the coil is complete it's pretty basic, not much to be gained by spending more than you need to (not like a rotating coil mag, where the coil has to be well assembled to put up with the centrifugal forces).

Don't be tempted to buy new old stock coils. They might not have done any work but they will still be 40+ years old and dependant on storage conditions, could be just as bad.

iagree

They're not so bad if you can test them & know they work, but they're certainly not worth anywhere near the same money as they could only last you a matter of weeks or could even die in transit.

I have been offered tested old coils (not new old stock, just old old stock) but with no real guarantee & the price was £50. I'm told you can get a back-street re-wound coil for £40 (but the person wouldn't tell me where from Mad ) so no point spending £50 on a 2nd hand one. They're only really worth a tenner or so, as they're a bit of a gamble.
