I've just finished restoring a R and H pt. The mag produces a good spark when spun by hand but to get a spark when the plug is in is the speed you have to turn the engine over to get it to fire, which it hasn't done yet. Were any pt's fitted with impulse mags although I can't see how one could be fitted. I think my arm is two inches longer!
Many thanks
Colin

Many PT's were fitted with the Wico A impulse magneto, they had a different timing case and also rotated at engine speed whereas the Lucas RS1 runs at half speed. My Lucas magged PT needs a lot of turning to get it firing, mine also has to start with no choke at all otherwise you could turn it all day and not get a cough out of it. They also flood easily, I just fill the float chamber and then turn the fuel off until it starts.

Pete.
