WX11 Main Bearing trouble ???
Hi Im new to this site and not sure how it all works so bear with me please.
I have a Villiers WX11 tucked awy gathering dust awaiting restoration by me when I retire / find time.
The last time I ran it it sputtered to a halt and I found that the flywheel side of the engines crank shaft could be lifted up and down by a couple of mm. I concluded that it had shattered a main bearing ???
Does anyone know what the bearing is, and where to get a replacement please.
If you can also give me an idea on whats involved in its replacement I would appreciate it muchly

Re: WX11 Main Bearing trouble ???
im restoring a load of wx11s over the next few months ,and may end up with one for spares ,
i here it a sod if a job to do though mate replacing bearings and setting end float "so i was told a while back"
i may be wrong ,but thats what i was told.
i also believe from memory the last one i hadd apart was with a bronze/brass bush with the bearing pressed in ,
with a sliding collar for the guvernors through it and the crankshaft was inside that ,with the roller bearing just the other side of that
so if your lucky the play you mention should just be within the max travell of the boring outs in the alloy ,just maybe the endcap of block behind the rear of flywheel maybe damaged were the guvering arrangment is pressing up to the rings machined internaly of cover
also is your wx11 a 1 1/2hp or 2 1/2hp ??
and is it just a lz wat ect the letters on side of alloy crank casting ????
will be posting pics and a new post before to long on how to strip down and rebuild the wx11 series engines
thanks kev

Re: WX11 Main Bearing trouble ???
ive been and got a bearing out of one of my 1 1/2hp wx11s for you,
in the hope there were numbers stamped on the reverse ,but theres not
so the vernia gauge reads outer diameter 2.8090" or 71.35mm
internal diameter 1.1250" or 28.50mm
i will get the bearing width for you later as forgot to measure that

Re: WX11 Main Bearing trouble ???
From what I remember the main bearings are just ball type bearings so its a case of pulling the old off and pushing the new on, not a hard job to do. The big end is a bit more involved as that requires the splitting of the crankshaft in half as that is a roller bearing and not a split bearing.

Oddly enough just saw this - the FUFNIK Kev refers to may be the Timkin FAFNIR range...
