Villiers type V carburetter

I’m looking for some advice please. I have a Villiers Mk 10. (or 12 possibly, I have to confess that I’m not sure, the makers plate is impossible to read). It starts well but very quickly the plug soots up. I’ve adjusted the carb as per Villiers instructions but I notice that the choke tube can be moved up and down a little if I put my finger through the air inlet. Is it supposed to do this? If not how do I stop it doing so please?

There's a little (4BA?) screw at the back - left side looking at air filter. Maybe that's worked loose?

Thank you Woodsman, the screw was tight but the threaded hole in the choke tube was oval. I’ve drilled and tapped tube and carb to 2BA and fitted a 2BA cheese headed bolt and it’s fine now. However, the plug still soots up. I realised that I was getting a spark at all sorts of different positions of the crankshaft and it was somewhat weak. I’ve found that the wire from the contact breaker to the coil is all chewed up under the flywheel so I’ll replace that and hopefully report back with success.

BTW If you are interested, whip the head off and measure bore - MK10 50mm & Mk12 55mm

Thank you Woodsman. I come from a maritime background where vibration is a problem and I use stranded copper for anything that isn’t domestic wiring but advice is always happily received! I’m getting somewhere. Only one spark per two revolutions and it’s nice and fat. The carb was flooding but a bit of bending fixed that. It now runs for a lot longer but is still sooting up. The jet needle has a parallel portion on the upper end so I presume it’s been screwed up tight at some point. Hopefully it hasn’t damaged the jet. I’ll order a new needle.

Thank you, on order. I missed your comment about checking the bore for some reason which is a pain as I had the head off to check the timing yesterday. Another day maybe.
