Fairbanks Morse Z 3hp
Still a newbie to this hobby having got my first engine, a Lister B16, last summer. Now I’m on to number two. This is my Fairbanks Morse Z 3hp. Think it’s a 1917, low tension, rotary mag, throttle governed. I bought it as a good runner not really needing anything doing. Hope to pick up a suitable pump to run off it sometime. Would also like to make the trolley steerable.
Not the best pic. Will add more in better light sometime and maybe a running video if I can work out how!

Nice looking engine!
Before you waste time trying, servimg.com does what it says on the tin - images only, no video.
If, like me, you don't have a Ubend or other social media account - have a search around. There are plenty of other video hosting services out there.

Nice engine that, wouldn't mind one of those myself. Did they make a lightweight version for us older folk?

Actually I was hoping they had made one from plastic and alloy!

Maybe seek out its little brother the 1 1/2 hp Z. Not sure what that weighs in at, but should be quite a bit less than this one, which I believe to 220-240kg on the trolley.

I've just sold my 3hp 'Z' too heavy for my old legs

Strange how engines put on weight over the years isn't it? That's why I have sold both my Lister twin head shearing set and the Wolseley WD2 with milking machine set up. There could be more getting moved on in the New Year.

Thanks. Yes, I already realise there is no escaping the slippery slope. I’m already thinking that I need a hit and miss to keep this one company!

Re: Fairbanks Morse Z 3hp
Now I know your in trouble, hit n miss are getting expensive. I’ve been down sizing to smaller engines, as my health isn’t great. I’m not giving the hobby up just getting smaller more manageable engines that I can move about easily. Used to be fine why the kids were younger and coming to the shows, but that was years ago. They now have families of their own and haven’t got must time or interest in them.
