Carbon Neutral engine
This is my lockdown project, a carbon neutral open crank Dovic Mk19 engine made from bits of timber I had laid around.
The conrod is Oak from an old drawer, the cylinder is turned from a newal post possibly Hemlock, the flywheels are turned from an unknown hardwood, the lightening holes are where it was screwed to the face plate. A bit of Mahogany operates the valve with dowel for the push rod, spark plug and valves
I am intending to drive it with an electric motor powered from a dynamo/alternator driven by an engine.

Iy goes great
Rooksey had this at my house last week whilst delivering something he had collected for me and this is an excellent job I cannot wait to see it working via the motor drive, hope he gets it up and running for the Battle of Standard rally that both of us are hoping to attend later this year.
No hope of me making something like this in wood, never even been able to even knock a nail in a piece of wood strait.

Re: Carbon Neutral engine
I failed the GCE in woodwork, mmm, oh yeah! and the other subjects that I took.
That will make a nice display.
May I suggest, a wood gas producer, to use up the offcuts and fuel the engine, to turn the generator/alternator, that powers the motor, what turns the wooden open crank, that entertains the spectator, who sez; cor, look at that. Just a thought; but no I don't know why she swallowed the bloody fly, either.

Re: Carbon Neutral engine
Well done Mick.
I also had something similar in mind but apparently, having just received an entire 'pine panelled ceiling' (remember those?), it's more important that I make a load of wooden planters for friends and neighbours.

Re: Carbon Neutral engine
Nice one, I've seen someone make one of those little finger treadle engines out of wood, they look a good project for someone who can make something out of wood. The only think I can do with wood is burn it.....

Lovely job looks great. I recall my millwright father telling me that beech wood used to actually be used for bearing blocks for steel shafts to run in.
