Gasket paper
Hello all.
Just a quick one, what is the best thickness gasket paper to use ? And what type just general gasket paper ?. Its to seal around the flywheel end crank bearing cover.

Re: Gasket paper
I use serial boxes for making my gaskets, a smear of grease on the gasket and you're good to go!

I used 0.8mm gasket paper for my Lister D bought from my local motor mart - just a couple of pounds. As mentioned elsewhere greased cardboard will suffice - and good in an emergency - but I enjoy fettling 'bespoke' gaskets with an old fashioned ball pein hammer! Whatever floats your boat I suppose!

You must have a good old fashioned motor factors, I got a blank look and 'what's that?' when I asked for gasket paper in a local place 15-odd years ago...

Yeah I asked for emery cloth in 3 places they looked at me like wtf he on about. I don't dare ask anyway for gasket paper probably think I'm on a wind up like going to ask for spirit bubbles .

I dropped on half a dozen rolls in local auto factors. When I asked the price, I had to take the young lad to the shelf and show him. He replied " No idea, you can 'av 'em.mattblack wrote:

Re: Gasket paper
On parts that dont have to be removed to often I've used silicon sealant but don't lay it on to thick, if using paper make sure you get the correct thickness as the original as if its to thick or thin you can end up locking a shaft so it wont turn as I once found out.
