As some of you know i have a climax domestic pump ( mike has the same one )

I have finally today decided i should get it sorted and pumping again ....

So here goes i have the piston assembelly stripped apart and the packing / stuffing box is a set up i have not seen before . can anyone advise me on how this is done ?

i have dug out the old packing and there is 6 rings in total .

As see from picture is 3 parts the middle collar has a recess in each side . there was 5 rings in part on the left stuffing box the spacer then 1 ring in the chamber that screws down on the collar . Is this correct ????

collar receded on both sides the same .

the chamber that screws down over all of it and tightens down the gland which i assume spreads it out ....

the piston rather than having cup washers is rubber washers , i wonder where you can get these from .... as i have serched and can not find anything the same .

mike i have found out that i measured wrong and the size i got (1/4") is the right size . It just seems alot of rings in there for such a small pump .... This one staying in original paint though .

Mike i think i have sorted the packing out i will give the parts a clean up tomorrow and repack and see what happens mate . Be nice to get this pump out of rally field . But i have only 1 working engine at moment and the A is a bit too big to power it ... Laughing

that pump would be ok with the a.i had a stuart turner pump on my lister b emgine run it with a bit of a loose belt.still worked great.

I know the A would power it fine but a bit overkill isnt it .... ? more suited to a lister d wolselly etc . The plan is to use it with the fowler once it is done . But that will be a slow project .

is yours 1 1/2" bore like my climax
as ive stripped mine down before christmas just i asked for help id my climax and info on it
but drew a blank
any ideas of manufactor dates for them
i also want to replace packing and cup seals just was not sure if the ones in mine are correct
and also what seals from the essentric slide to piston shaft as mine is a bigger hole than needed looks like there should be a seal there??????????????
and the cup seals are 1 1/4" but the bore is 1 1/2" is this correct or not ????????????
ive soaked them since removal but still the same size
also matt were you get your parts from and cost please

kev i do not know anything about this pump , only that it did have a motor on the top but i removed it and made a blank plate for it . it does pump with the cup washers in there but are not in best condition so think if i can replace them i will . but i dont want to disturb them off the piston untill i know i can get them as i have a fear they will split etc . Regarding size of bore i will tell you tomorrow. If you post some pictures up on this i will say if its the same as mine or not . I have seen 2 types of climax domestic pumps . Mike and i have both the same ones ...

Regarding the seal in crank , i can not help you with that mine leaks if tip on the side but i know alot of domestic pumps do that .... designed to sit upright and does not leak ! my bearings in mine are all good . If you feal you need a seal measure the od and id and the depth and i can see if i can get you one from a place we deal with at work .

thats the best i can do at the moment mate . Il post some pictures tomorrow .

yes i posted this before i reserced the engine and found out that the one half of bottom end was replaced with the later WAH spec
were it should be lzha 200 going of flywheel and ignition backplate serial numbers that match up to a villers with lzha 200
its not a bitsa engine it has a replacment part all the rest is original

yes it was well out with the timing then
and now i got it running spot on the coil dies a death ever 1 1/2-2 hrs
ive just located and payed for a new one today
so should be the end of that issue
also have a original airfilter and a bronze exhurst outlet for it so back to complete
just trying not to paint it and leave it in working cloths
just when repairing fuel tank al the paint has burnt off or blackened so that will have to be painted now
but better to preserve and last than rott and be gone for ever
climax pump 4x flat popper seals 2x suction, 2x pressure are yours still good as mine are like new ,shame about all the rest on mine
it does did still pump a large volume of water even with the srunken cup seals

mine are a bit tatty around edges but i say if it pumps its ok , the only problem was with the gland packing ... was leaking from there . so that why its been stripped down .... but its staying in the original paintwork . still alot of paint on it .

Il see if i can get it built and do a video of it , if not be the weekend after .

i know what you mean but its not a long job to get piston out .....

I cant seem to locate any cup wasters for it anywhere ...

i can get the main cup seals made to order but they are not cheap though
but the more the cheaper as usual with special orders

Kev i know somewhere and can get the cup washers that are 1.1/4 od with a 3/8 id hole for £2.70 ish each you just have to make the inner hole bigger with a punch .

im going to make a order if you want me to get another 2 ?

ive wrote 32-33mm or 1 1/2" leather cup seals
let me check my bore tommorow and will let you know
wether 1 1/2 or 1 1/2" seals i need for mine

I use this company for my pump seals, they are nice and supple and easy to fit Matt. They aren't very good at answering the phone though, better to write.

Thats where i have found the cup washers pete , i measured my old cup washers and not sure what size they are ... The old ones are just about 1.1/4 . When i say just its only JUST a little bit under . If i measure the bore of pump would the cup washer need to be exactly the same size ? Or if was slightly bigger and squeeze it in be ok ?

Hi Kev and Matt, first of all base camp as recommended by foden for cup washers, but not an overnight service he can take a while to send but thats how base cam are so no need to moan about it, second of all you say you glands were leaking ? by how much were they leaking?
never try to completely seal the glands they should always drip slightly every few seconds this acts as lubricant,
as for gland packing ive always found boat chandlers are cheaper they usually have rolls of it and will sell by the foot/metre, half the price of ebay,

Ian i have printed a order form off , i just need to fill it in and send it off tomorrow . With the gland packing i have some the right size that will do . i have cleaned all the mating surfaces up and stuffing box etc . mouted the pump body on a base , need to go and get some fittings tomorow to come out at 3/4 and step down to 22mm copper fitment for the pick up . or would be better to use 38 mm ? for the suction ....?
