Re: Kubota diesel KND3
Hello all,
Finally an update after a long time.
The current trolley was meant to be a temporary solution.
Want to mount the wooden drawbars again, in combination with a trolley.
Current trolley has a very narrow wheelbase which has already resulted in some balance problems. This may result in tilting of the engine.
Came across a handcart and seems to be a reasonable base for a trolley
Of course there are some changes necessary, however this could be done quite easily
First I've made a three dimensional drawing to have an idea about the looks in general and the positions on the frame where reinforcements and connection points are needed.
Will continue to add updates in this topic regularly

Re: Kubota diesel KND3
Made a quick mock-up with an old engine housing and some pieces of wood to have an idea about the position of the engine.
The wooden slats are representing the total length of the original wooden drawbar (67cm)
Between the rectangular steel tubes reinforcements will be welded to create more strength, as well as some mounting supports for the wooden floor and the wooden drawbars of the engine.

Re: Kubota diesel KND3
Hi, looks like it is coming on nicely. Hopefully everything will fit, especially as you produced the impressive CAD drawings to ensure it does.

Update 28-2-2022
Fit the wooden beams on the bottom of the engine.
Using an old engine casting makes it much more easier.
(Weight of complete engine is roughly 50 kg!)
Some sections of the wooden drawbar beams need minor changes.
To accomodate the fuel pump housing and ensure accessibility of the oilfilter.
Cross suppports are also welded on their final positions
Next step is to shape the handlebar ends and to create the connection
between the wooden drawbar and the trolley with 4 angle brackets
The floor will consist of smal meranti slats, mounted on a plywood base.
Eventually a small tool box will be added as well.
Keep you posted!

Shaped the handlebars on the wooden drawbars.
Beams were cut to the original length (67cm)
Please note the old housing is only to check the dimensions.
Of course the refurbished Kubota will be attached to the wooden drawbars.
Next step will be the mounting of the threaded round rods and determine the final connection points on the trolley.

Re: Kubota diesel KND3
Good evening,
Made some progress on the trolley today.
After a lot of sanding, the wooden beams are ready for varnish.
Created the angle brackets of the wooden beams to the trolley.
These are made of leftovers from an old rack and will clamp the engine with two M10 bolts on both sides of the cross supports (40x20mm)
Please note the longer bolts as there will be an additional floor of meranti slats mounted on the plywood base.

Re: Kubota diesel KND3
Drawbars mounted on the refurbished Kubota.
What a difference compared to the old temporary trolley.
Then the first fit on the trolley.
Great to see how the original idea on the digital drawing board has come to life.
Want to show the final result on the coming Nuenen stationairy engine show. (4-6 June 2022)
Of course there is still a lot of work to be done to get there.
- Replace needle bushes of the wheels.
- Include reinforcement on steering knuckles
The current used construction has too much movement in it
- Create a wooden floor with slats
- Paint the steelframe of trolley.
Wish you all a good weekend.
