Villiers F15

Picked up another little engine from ebay after i had a last minute browse.

The engine belonged to a father and son and was used but then became unused and sat around for a while in dry storage till i bought it.


If the numbers stamped are what i think they are then it was manufactured on the 28th Feb 1975.



It needs...

New spark plug... i broke the old removing it.

Fuel line... do they have a fuel tap between tank and pipe or is it just a pipe straight from tank?


I also think it is missing a spring or connecting piece... what i believe is an arm to adjust the running speed is connected to the carb with a nut and bolt but itself is not connected to anything else in order to make adjustments.


Aim is to get it running and most likely give the body a spray coat but go to town on the red parts and repaint a different colour.

There is normally a tap on the fuel tank and the pipe passes through the cowling and comes out of one of the holes near the carb.

You need a Champion N8 or equivalent sparkplug.

I'm sure sure someone on here has restored an F15 so may be worth a search?.

The small piece of pipe that came with it is too thick to go through the cowling... and i've already ordered a replacement pipe the same thickness

A new spark plug has been bought at my local car part specialist.



What should be connected to the arm circled... and behind the carb in the area marked by arrow............ if someone can show a pic that would be great.

A nice pleasant surprise this afternoon.

Still had no spark so sprayed some WD40 on and left it for a while before wiping the magneto and wires one more time... i was not expecting anything special to occur but i turned the engine over and it sparked.

So all that was left to do was put the tank and cowling back on... top it up with petrol and give it a try... sadly after a good few attempts it hadn't started.

Next thing to do was to cheat and fill the chamber up with a little petrol and try starting again... it spluttered into life for a moment and cut out.

Refilled the chamber and started it again only this time holding the revs higher to allow it to get the petrol running through and push out any air left in the long and over size fuel line.

It ran and ran fine for a good ten minutes.... till it ran out of fuel..... Video here --------->Its Alive

Well today was a busy but good day.

After giving the engine a good clean and a little sanding in places it was masked up and then painted.... all didn't go as planned though... after taping it up i turned it upside down and what oil was left in the engine soon found its way out... so it was left to finish draining before another clean and re-taping.

I kept the silver... silver and the black... black, although 2 different blacks... gloss black for the body and high temperature matt black for the cylinder.

Once dry i then added some small details.


The carb will need a bit more time spent on it to get it looking clean.


And tonight the cowling after some paint removal and rust protection has finally had its first coat added.



Also found out a piece of wire is missing from the governor arm up to the metal arm behind the carb... which will allow the engine to be revved a little higher... i may or may not fit a new one.
