Hi everyone. Evidently I should introduce myself! Frank. I am ~18 years into restoring an 1875 Steam Launch “Williamette” I never intended the job to take me into retirement! From BSC as an R&D Tiffy. Living in Great Ayton N’Yorks. I have recently been looking into the possibility of using an outboard motor as a “Get Us Home” method of propulsion. Should the Elliot Bay Triple Compound Steam Engine fail! I have had an old Seagull 40 Plus in the shed for ~ 20 years and was delighted to find it still works! I also have a JAP Air Cooled Outboard, believed to be a Sea-Bee 3? Having scoured the internet I can find very little information about this motor. The Wikipedia Page on the maker, one John, Albert, Prestwich. (Hence J.A.P.) contains no reference to their manufacturing Outboard Motors! The only numbers I can see are, ES8/1115 Stamped on the Crankcase, the Carburettor is an Amal stamped 37914 I would be very grateful for "any information" about this type of Motor.

Hello and welcome! welcome sign

AFAIK JAP just supplied engines to other companies rather producing complete machines. There has been some references to Sea-Bee outboards in Stationary Engine magazine in the past.

A quick search came up with this:

Spark plug - NGKB6HS, gap 0.025 in
contact breaker gap - 0.018 in
Fuel mixture - 20:1
Ignition timing - 7/64 in or 25 degrees before TDC
Bore - 46 mm
Stroke - 48 mm

The gearbox is filled with under-water grease.

Hi Frank and welcome to the forum.
To answer the question you sent me.  To send a Private message - look to the right of a post and under the members name/avatar you will see a 'head and shoulders' button with the letters MP (don't ask me why it's not PM scratch)

You can use this to send a private message to another member. You can also click on their user name to do the same.
You should avoid sharing any personal contact details in open forum (Watch out there's bots about!)

'Host an Image'  saves the photo to our image hosting service (Servimg.com)

Image width you can leave as default but some high resolution pictures may not be entirely visible until you click on them

Use Category to create a separate folder for a project if you wish, otherwise they will all drop into a 'root' folder.

'Insert Image' inserts a link (url) to the saved  image.

Have a read of the tutorial here  https://ukengineforum.forumotion.com/t9665-how-to-upload-images.

Can be a bit daunting at first but read carefully and follow instructions slowly and you'll get there.

I found these in the May 2003 Stationary Engine magazine, in reply to an enquiry in a previous issue.
